Divorce Me? Go Ahead…

Rebeca sat calmly in her kitchen in Coyoacán while her husband Mauro shouted over the phone from an airport. He demanded she reactivate the platinum credit card he had secretly taken to pay for a luxury trip for his parents and sister. His voice was filled with urgency and entitlement, expecting her to give in. But Rebeca remained composed, unmoved by the chaos on the other end of the line.

When she refused, Mauro’s tone shifted to anger. He threatened her with divorce as if it were a weapon, something meant to intimidate and control her. Soon after, his mother Patricia joined in, arrogantly warning that Rebeca would be thrown out of “their” house. Their confidence was rooted in assumptions they had never questioned.

Unshaken, Rebeca reminded them that the card had been used without her authorization. Her voice stayed steady as she made it clear she would not enable their actions. Without raising her tone or engaging in their drama, she calmly ended the call. What they didn’t realize was that she had already taken steps far beyond this single moment.

Days earlier, Rebeca had discovered a note that exposed Mauro’s actions. He had taken her card and spent large amounts on flights, resorts, and other luxuries without her knowledge. Instead of reacting emotionally, she approached the situation with precision. She canceled the card immediately and reported it as stolen.
