My Future Mother-in-Law Made Me Bathe in a Basin Outside to ‘Test’ Me – Karma Found Her in the End

When my fiancé Josh and I were invited to his parents’ lake house for a “relaxing weekend,” I expected peaceful views and family bonding. Instead, I got cleaning supplies and a broken shower. From the moment we arrived, his mom had me scrubbing the floors and toilets. She handed me raw meat for dinner and told me to handle the grill alone — because, as she put it,

“We like our women capable.” After dinner, I asked to shower. That’s when she smiled and told me the indoor shower was “busted” — but not to worry, there was a metal basin out back and a garden hose. I washed outside like a pioneer while she sipped wine inside. The next morning, I overheard her on the phone: “She thinks the shower’s broken. It works fine. I just wanted to see what kind of girl she is. A little test.” I was stunned — and furious.

But I kept calm. Later that day, karma arrived in the form of a plumber.

Josh’s mom had apparently decided to take a shower — in the very much functional bathroom — and didn’t realize the plumber had a key. He walked in on her mid-rinse. Josh’s dad, confused, said the only issue was the kitchen sink. That’s when Josh finally realized the truth: “Wait… you lied?” We left that night.

Josh didn’t speak to his mom on the way out. He apologized for not standing up for me sooner. I just smiled and said, “Some tests backfire.” Because sometimes, karma doesn’t need help. She just shows up — soaked, screaming, and caught red-handed in a towel.
