Kirk was sat under an open tent while taking questions from the audience when he was fatally shot in the neck.<\/p>\n
The right-wing activist is survived by his wife Erika and their two young children. Following Kirk\u2019s passing, Erika pledged to \u2018complete his vision\u2019 for the non-profit organization as she became its new CEO.<\/p>\n
Erika has since stuck to her word, and hosted an event on Wednesday (October 29) at the University of Mississippi as part of the \u2018This Is the Turning Point\u2019 tour where JD Vance was invited.<\/p>\n
Speaking before the vice president went on stage, Erika told the crowd: \u201cWhen our team asked my dear friend, Vice President JD Vance, to speak today, I really prayed on it because, obviously, it\u2019s a very emotional, emotional day.\u201d<\/p>\n
She proceeded to call the vice president \u2018a very, very dear friend\u2019, adding, per New York Post: \u201cNo one will ever replace my husband, but I do see some similarities in JD.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vance the came on stage and hugged Erika before taking to the podium \u2014 and the pair\u2019s embrace has got people talking.<\/p>\n
As they hugged one another, Erika put her hand on the back of the vice president\u2019s head in a rather intimate moment which has raised some eyebrows.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsha might have something to say about that hug,\u201d one person said of Vance\u2019s wife.<\/p>\n
Calling it weird, another wrote on Twitter: \u201cI have never wanted to touch any man\u2019s hair during a hug other than my husbands. This is weird.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cJD Vance and Erika Kirk are one inappropriate appearance away from claiming that God spoke to them and they have to get married now,\u201d added a third.<\/p>\n
Somebody went on question: \u201cWhy would she touch the VP of the United States hair\/head in an embrace?\u201d<\/p>\n
UNILAD have approached Vance and Turning Point USA for comment.<\/p>\n
Another talking point of Wednesday evening\u2019s event was Vance\u2019s comments about his wife\u2019s religion and his hopes of her converting to Christianity.<\/p>\n
Usha Vance grew up in a \u2018not a particularly religious\u2019 Hindu family, according to her husband, and she often attends church with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel, and I hope eventually, my wife comes to see it the same way,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
The vice president added: \u201cIf she doesn\u2019t, then God says, everybody has free will, so that doesn\u2019t cause a problem for me. That\u2019s something you work out.\u201d<\/p>\n
